We've been calling this girl Classy ever since the day she was born.  The photo above was taken on November 30 and shows Classy playing with a catnip cigar.  Many solid colored cats are born with what we call ghost bars that tell us the kitten is carrying tabby pattern as it bleeds through the solid color.  This is more common with lighter colors like blue, red, and cream which are not as saturated as black is.  And the silver/smoke gene can enhance the ghost barring to the point where many smokes really do look like tabbies as with our Chiaroscuro.  But with a really bold tabby pattern bleeding through like the wide bands of the classic tabby pattern, we can also see ghost barring on some black kittens and even on black cats if you look at them carefully in bright light.  Classy's mother Minue was born with absolutely gorgeous/perfect classic tabby ghost bars herself, so it wasn't a surprise when this little girl was born with them too.  What is surprising is that she continues to have that pattern visible even now that she is 6 months old.  And so it goes that we've been referring to this lady as a black classic and her nickname Classy has stuck.  Although she had very poor type for a Turkish Angora as a young kitten with a face that was too short, a huge break in her profile, etc. we were sure that she had to become better with her two gorgeous parents.  And slowly but surely, she has in fact become a very beautiful girl.  I even looked at her the other day and thought she really is show quality now!  She's always had a delightful, thick coat which keeps getting longer and silkier.  Her photos don't show how nice and glossy her coat is because it does stand out because of it's fullness so the light penetrates more than it bounces off.  And this may also be why we continue to see those ghost bars.  The camera doesn't pick up the barring as much as I thought it would since the flash usually enhances color faults like this.  But maybe this is because her coat really is in great condition and does reflect the flash even though you don't see the shine.  Oh well, enough about what she looks like.  She's a total credit to both her mother and her father regarding her temperament.  Just totally sweet and funny and happy.  A great little girl who would blend beautifully into any home.  She isn't timid or shy at all, but she doesn't have an ounce of alpha in her either the way many TA females do.  She is so enthusiastic and into having fun that scenes like her with the catnip cigars below are quite common with Classy around.  She's kind of a self made kitten inasmuch as no one has ever had to teach her how to have a great time.  She's as happy to play with a catnip cigar as she is with a pellet of the pine litter we use or another kitten or cat.  We just love this kitten!
The photo at the top of the page and the one to the left were taken on November 30th.  The photo directly below was taken on December 6th and those further down the page on January 10.  I honestly don't understand why these first pictures don't show the shine in Classy's coat... The smokey/grey tones you see just aren't there either.  The photos taken on January 10th do show her coat better although they do not show Classy's ghost barring much at all...
