| My daughter Jessica read chapters from Winnie The Pooh to Minue's kittens when they were little and decided to give them all names from the book. We always spend a lot of time sitting on the floor in my bedroom with the little babies and they always love to snuggle up on our laps when they are all played out. But these little ladies looked so smitten when Jessi read to them that it just seemed right to give them names of the characters in the book who the narrator is of course reading to. So we have Piglet, Pooh, Tigger and Rabbit. To be honest, I don't think Jessi even knows why she decided on any one name for any of the girls. They certainly don't look like their namesakes (although Pooh is rather chubby and Tigger is of course the brown tabby girl). They just are who they are as all great Turkish Angoras should be. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| All of the photos above were taken at one month old. All four of these girls are so cute and chubby that you just want to scoop them up and hug them! They are super social with one another and us - you hardly ever see any one of them alone and quite often you'll find three or even all four of them chasing one another's tails and wrestling as they get wound up with the two older silver boys. As soon as one kitten finds something that moves, others descend and they feed off of one another as they figure out the best use for their new toy. They are all so cute as they swagger and pounce around. The pictures below were taken on June 21st when Rabbit was two months old. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Like her silver patched mackerel tabby sisters Pooh and Piglet, Rabbit also carries the silver gene. It's just called smoke when the coat color is a solid instead of a tabby. As different as every two silvers are, black smokes also vary A LOT. Depending on how much the smoke gets expressed, you can have a very narrow band of smoke at the base of the hairs on up to a very wide band like our adored Chiaroscuro. Rabbit's mother Minue is actually a correctly colored black smoke where there is enough black tipping to the hairs to make her look black on the surface where the fur lies smooth but smokey where the fur fluffs out like the ruff, britches, belly and tail. But Rabbit appears to have inherited the wide band gene from her father BeauBeau who is of course wide banded enough to be a shaded cameo. Our little Rabbit is smokey all over and probably will be just like Chiaroscuro. Unlike Scurio, Rabbit is a tortoiseshell smoke which means she has red patches in her coat. Her red has yet to develop much at all. Where she has those patches in her coat, the fur still looks white. This is what causes the blotchy look in her pictures - you can clearly see a white blotch on her red, some very light toes, etc. But in time, red tipping will appear. In the photo below, the angle of the shot is just right to see some tiny red patches. How much the red gets expressed depends on that crazy smoke gene. One way or another, Rabbit is an adorable, beautiful little Turkish Angora! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
