| My daughter Jessica read chapters from Winnie The Pooh to Minue's kittens when they were little and decided to give them all names from the book. We always spend a lot of time sitting on the floor in my bedroom with the little babies and they always love to snuggle up on our laps when they are all played out. But these little ladies looked so smitten when Jessi read to them that it just seemed right to give them names of the characters in the book who the narrator is of course reading to. So we have Piglet, Pooh, Tigger and Rabbit. To be honest, I don't think Jessi even knows why she decided on any one name for any of the girls. They certainly don't look like their namesakes (although Pooh is rather chubby and Tigger is of course the brown tabby girl). They just are who they are as all great Turkish Angoras should be. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| All of these first photos were taken at one month old. All four of these girls are so cute and chubby that you just want to scoop them up and hug them! They are super social with one another and us - you hardly ever see any one of them alone and quite often you'll find three or even all four of them chasing one another's tails and wrestling as they get wound up with the two older silver boys. As soon as one kitten finds something that moves, others descend and they feed off of one another as they figure out the best use for their new toy. They are all so cute as they swagger and pounce around. Pooh is on the left (below) and Piglet is on the right. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Although both Pooh and Piglet are silver patched mackerel tabbies, their colors look very different. Piglet has a lot more cameo patching in her coat than Pooh does with a peachy colored blaze on her nose to make it very easy to know who is who when you look them in the face. Piglet is in the foreground in the two photos below so you can see her cameo (red silver) patches glowing where Pooh really doesn't have any large patches. As their colors are maturing, Pooh has started to get a more uniform look with far less contrast tabbying visible between the black bars and the silver background. It's impossible to know how light/bright either one will be as their silver continues to develop, but they are both gorgeous kittens and a total joy to have bouncing around. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| The two photos below help to show how the color cameo (red silver) tends to intensify and get darker at the tips as kittens mature. I have no scientific explanation for how the color in an existing hair can in fact get darker when you would think it would fade (if anything), but for some reason the color red in Turkish Angora kitten coats does seem to get significantly darker over the first few months, even in red tabbies where the silver gene is not present. To help explain, black silver and black smoke tend to look lighter as the silver grows out at the base of the hairs - you don't really notice this yet in the time lapse between these two pictures because the coat really isn't that much longer just yet. But you sure can see the red or peachy color coming out on the bridge of Piglet's nose in just a feew weeks. In the photo to the left which was taken at six weeks old, there is virtually no color at all leaving a very silver or almost white look. But in the photo to the right which was taken 4 weeks later at about 2 1/2 months old, you can see that Piglet definitely has a cameo blaze up her nose. And what a pretty girl she is! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
